Electropolishing of stainless steel
At Anodizados Oliva, we offer electrolytic treatments that improve the properties of stainless steel and guarantee clean, uniform and resistant surfaces.
Electropolishing
Electrolytic process that dissolves the surface layer of the metal in a controlled manner, levelling the base material and achieving a high-quality shiny finish, creating a passive layer on the surface.
The most common types of stainless steel we work with are AISI 304 and 316, widely used in industrial applications.
Process characteristics
Cleaning
Completely sterile surfaces are obtained. Electrolytic polishing in an acidic medium leaves the material free of impurities. It is often combined with other prior surface treatments such as mechanical polishing, blasting, shot blasting and pickling.
Friction
Surface levelling reduces the coefficient of friction, improving anti-wear and anti-friction properties.
Appearance
Enhances the finish of any stainless steel part, achieving uniform, shiny surfaces with high aesthetic quality.
Deburring
As it is a process that dissolves the base metal, it effectively removes burrs and sharp edges, even in areas that are inaccessible to mechanical deburring.
Corrosion protection
The resulting chemical passivation significantly increases the corrosion resistance of stainless steel.
Benefits of electropolishing
Electropolishing provides a high-quality finish and numerous technical advantages for stainless steel. Its main benefits include:
- Removal of impurities and stains.
- Clean, uniform and sterile surfaces.
- Improves resistance to corrosion.
- Glossy finishes.
- Application on complex parts with different geometries.
